Aaron "Doc" Carter, owner

  • Bachelor of Arts, Music Composition - Campbell University
  • Master of Music, Music Composition - The University of Georgia
  • Doctor of Musical Arts, Music Composition and Theory - The University of Georgia

A North Carolina native, Dr. Aaron Carter is a musician, craftsman, and designer with a deep commitment to building things that last - whether in music or in the garage. Before founding Top Tier Shelving Company, Aaron built a career in music academia, studying composition under Dr. William Pruett, Dr. Adrian Childs, Dr. Leonard Ball, and others. He also studied music with Mr. John Lowe, Ms. Betty Wishart, Dr. Charles Wilson, Dr. Phillip Morrow, Dr. Roger Vogel, Dr. David Haas and many others.

He is the recipient of the Olin Parker Composition Award and holds the above-listed degrees. At the University of Georgia, Aaron taught Composition Lab and Music Theory for Non-Majors, and served as the Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Roger and Phyllis Dance Center for New Music during his doctoral studies. After completing his doctorate, he was invited to join the faculty of Campbell University as an Adjunct Professor of Music - fulfilling a long-held goal of teaching music at the collegiate level. It was during this time at Campbell University that he met his future wife, Lucy Greenleaf (Adjunct Professor of Violin and owner of Arioso Strings). They are now married and have two wonderful sons.

Aaron taught Composition, Forms and Analysis, Orchestration (his personal favorite), Counterpoint, World Music, Music Theory, and other courses. However, like many adjunct professors, Aaron saw his workload increasing and promotions promised, but those promises never materialized. Facing uncertainty and relying on his self-taught woodworking hobby, Aaron pivoted to the garage organization industry.

Aaron quickly built his employer's company to profitability. He also gained a reputation among customers for helping them solve REAL storage challenges and being a reliable partner through every aspect of the journey. Aaron implemented safer and more efficient manufacturing processes. The company prospered while employee safety reached all-time highs.

However, companies are more than their outward appearances and products. They require leadership, stability, foresight, and discovering new ways to delight customers. Company culture is important to Aaron, and after years of trying to force change within a company, the answer became clear: Build a better company.
